I am getting virtual memory errors.

Windows Aero is the graphical user interface and the default theme in most editions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems released by Microsoft. This user interface is very resource intensive, change the desktop theme to the 10ZiG Technology theme which does not use Windows Aero. Right click on the desktop and go to personalize - set the theme to 10ZiG Technology.

Using dual monitor, one VGA and one DVI, my monitors are flashing on and off continually.

When using dual monitor (VGA and DVI) you will need to change the desktop theme to a non Aero Theme.

I am trying to connect to a Windows 7 VM and I cannot get dual monitors to work.

Please refer to this article but multiple monitors is only supported when you connect to the OS Windows Ultimate or Enterprise 7. Windows professional or home will not support multiple monitors. This is the operating system you are connecting to not the thin client.

How do I run sysprep on a Windows 7 thin client?

Run sysprep on Windows 7 as follows:

At the c:\windows\system32\sysprep prompt

sysprep /generalize /unattend:c:\xml file location /shutdown

Example for E710 model US: sysprep /generalize /unattend:c:\setup\cloneus.xml /shutdown

Example for E710 model UK: sysprep /generalize /unattend:c:\setup\cloneuk.xml /shutdown

Example for all other models US: sysprep /generalize /unattend:c:\setup\us.xml /shutdown

Example for all other models UK: sysprep /generalize /unattend:c:\setup\uk.xml /shutdown

Below are two xml files that can be used for this process:

usreg.xml

ukreg.xml

I am getting a message "You have been logged into a temporary profile in Windows 7 computer..."

This temp profile issue can cause missing ICONS on the desktop and loss of Windows 7 customized settings. Restarting or logging off and back on to Windows 7 does not resolve the issue. This temp profile issue rises because of a registry key problem.

To fix the Temporary Profile in Windows 7 Issue follow the steps below:

  1. Log in with temp profile.
  2. Start registry editor by typing regedit in find box in Windows 7.
  3. Navigate the following location in Windows 7.
  4. You will see similar keys under profile list with .bak difference, as shown below.
  5. The correct profile key is marked as bak. Currently your Windows 7 computer logged in with fresh profile with same key. So, rename the new profile key ( without extension .bak) and remove .bak from correct profile key. See below.
  6. Log off and back on with user name and password. You should get your icons and profile settings back in Windows 7.

How can I disable USB RemoteFX redirection?

By default the 10ZiG Win 7 thin clients come with the RemoteFX USB redirection feature enabled.

To turn off RemoteFX redirection, the RemoteFX USB redirection feature must be disabled.

Select Start - Run - gpedit.msc and select OK. In Group Policy, navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Connection Client\RemoteFX USB Device Redirection, and edit “Allow RDP redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices from this computer.” Disable the policy. Select OK and reboot the thin client.

Using the RemoteFX USB redirection feature:

  1. On the client, open Remote Desktop Connection. If the tabs are not listed, click Options to expand the dialog box.
  2. On the Local Resources tab, click More to display the Local devices and resources dialog box. If at least one supported RemoteFX USB device is connected, it should be listed in the device tree under Other supported RemoteFX USB devices.

Note: The heading “Other supported RemoteFX USB devices” will only appear if the RemoteFX USB redirection feature is enabled on the client and at least one supported RemoteFX USB device is connected and available for redirection.

I am using a DVI to VGA adapter with a single VGA monitor on a 6717. After the Windows splash screen, the screen goes black with a white cursor that I can move all around but see nothing but black or I get a desktop with no ICONS and no Task Bar.

This unit comes with two DVI ports one dual link and one single link. When Windows 7 boots using a VGA monitor that has never been attached prior (make, model) it detects the DVI port and then detects the VGA monitor and creates a S3FakeCRT and extends it.

At this point, with a black screen, you should be able to press enter twice and wait three to four minutes to get a display indicating Windows 7 is continuing through the setup. Once the setup is finished, if you find the desktop is empty of ICONs and the Task Bar, you are on the extended desktop. You will need to move the cursor over to the extended desktop and once you see the cursor right click on the desktop and select S3 ScreenToys. In ScreenToys Device Management, click on Options and take the option to detect monitors. It should display both a DVI and VGA monitor. It should see the DVI and CRT monitor - check the CRT monitor then right click on it and make it the primary and uncheck the DVI monitor. Hide the screen tools and select yes to save. Set resolution for the VGA monitor. Commit changes if write protection is on. Restart the computer.

If this does not resolve the issue for some reason you will need to follow directions below:

  1. Plug in both a DVI and VGA monitor
  2. Go into the BIOS and set device 1 to DVI1 and device 2 to DVI2
  3. Boot up the unit and walk through its initial setup
  4. Right click on the desktop and select screen tools
  5. Select monitor and detect monitors
  6. It should see the DVI and CRT monitor - check the CRT monitor then right click on it and make it the primary
  7. Hide the screen tools and select yes to save
  8. Right click on desktop and select screen resolution
  9. Select resolution and make sure all ICONs are on the VGA monitor and the desktop is extended to the DVI monitor
  10. Commit changes if write protection is on
  11. Reboot with both monitors attached.
  12. Once it is back up and at a desktop, remove the DVI monitor and cable and reboot the thin client again
  13. If at any time the DVI monitor port will not initialize on the reboot pull the power on the thin client, plug it back in to initialize and it should come back up

NOTE: This is only a temporary issue as our R&D engineers are working on a resolution.

Will the red ATI7000 64MB 64Bit PCI DVI CRT card work in the 67xx series box?

Yes it will work. The problem that still exists is that when you do a warm boot (restart) the fourth monitor does not come up, however if you power down completely and then do a cold boot or a normal power up the fourth monitor will initialize.

Can I install Windows updates on WES 7?

Technically you can but keep in mind:

Verify there is enough space on the the DOM to install the updates.

Either disable write protection or make sure you commit changes after updates have taken place or once it reboots they will be gone.

On the U800 (5617) running WES 7 I am getting a flashing cursor when using HDX on XenDesktop4.

Below is a zip file containting the hotfixes from Citrix

CPR252751.zip

The fix needs to applied to the Xenserver VM that XenDesktop is handing out, it does NOT go on the thin client. Import the .reg file into the VMs registry and the 2 files go here:

C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICAService\PseudoServerInproc.dll
C:\Program Files\Citrix\ICAService\CtxFlashSvc.dll

How can I get my ELO Touch Screen to work with the WES 7 build?

There are a couple of issues with Touch Screens in WES 7

If the touch screen requires a driver and does not take advantage of the native dll’s in Windows 7’s tablet pc support then it will work.

For example the DT Tablet 312 & 362 use the Penmount driver which works in WES 7.

If the touch screen does not require a driver, it will not work in our build of WES 7 even if the touch screen works in Windows 7. There is a component called Tablet PC support in Windows 7 and one of its functions is to provide touch screen support. This component cannot be put into the 10ZiG Technology WES 7 image because it requires a higher license.

ELO Touch Screens will not work in 10ZiG Technology WES 7 builds. We are checking with ELO to see if all models require this component and if they do, ELO will only work in XPe. Once we have a better understanding as to which Touch Screens will work with WES 7 we will provide a list of recommended touch screens.
