Established in 1799, TWM Solicitors is a leading south-east law firm with 250+ people in offices across Surrey and London. Their services are designed around the requirements of businesses and the needs of individuals and families. Business services are provided by lawyers who specialize in corporate, commercial, commercial property, debt recovery, dispute resolution, and employment. Services for individuals and families include family and matrimonial, moving house, notarial, powers of attorney, wealth management, and Wills & probate. Their Law Society accreditations, Wills and Inheritance Quality Scheme, and Conveyancing Quality Scheme, along with various other independent recommendations, demonstrate that TWM meets the highest standards of management and client care.

The Challenge

Work smarter, not harder

  • Infrastructure consisted of 250+ PCs being used as Thin Clients (i.e. ‘dumb terminals’)
  • End Users (Lawyers, secretaries, and staff) spread out over several locations – in office and remote
  • Required hardware and firmware that would support their digital dictation software

TWM had previous experience with Thin Clients, namely Wyse Thin Clients, but they didn’t provide support for TWM’s critical dictation software, so they turned to standard computer units running as Thin Clients. With additional mergers, Solicitors, locations, and remote work laptops on the rise due to the pandemic, Alan Barrett, TWM Head of IT and TWM veteran quickly realized what he needed and came up with an action plan to replace all computers across the firm with Windows-based Thin Clients for their Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) platform. Alan’s aim was to streamline the provisioning, deployment, ongoing management, and replacement cycle of their endpoint estate with a standardized organization wide strategy. This would alleviate endpoint management headaches associated to a wide-range of different computers at various life-cycle and warranty stages.

With the support of TWM, Alan turned to their trusted reseller Softcat for recommendations who put him in touch with 10ZiG. After that, there was no looking back. 10ZiG Sales Director James Broughton, with assistance from Chris Hayes, 10ZiG Technical Support Manager EMEA, and the 10ZiG EMEA Tech Support Team, welcomed Alan and together they qualified the project requirements and delivered a proposed 10ZiG solution that met these needs. Alan received free 10ZiG demo devices shortly afterwards and access to the 10ZiG Technical Team to assist with the evaluation. Chris and the 10ZiG Team saw to it that Alan had all the proper configurations required for the AVD specifications he needed, as well as access to the 100% free 10ZiG Manager Server. 10ZiG Manager is 100% free and saves time on TWM deployment and ongoing management of TWM’s endpoints, providing as standardized, secure, and flexible UX which they use as a complimentary tool to their MDM manager, InTune. A ‘golden’ image was developed with TWM, the digital dictation software was fully supported and operational, and things were off-and-running. Once the project was signed-off, 10ZiG shipped 250 x 10ZiG Windows IoT LTSC Thin Clients, each pre-configured with connections to the TWM RDS environment so that devices could be plugged in and immediately ready to be logged in on. Over half the Firm’s workstations, equipped with 10ZiG devices, two monitors, with remote capabilities, were installed over one weekend migration and TWM’s other offices over subsequent weekends. Overall, TWM & 10ZiG delivered 250+ workstations, 500+ monitors, arms and all the fixings…and the full migration was a success!
